Freddie Lewis a member of the Pacers’ first ABA championship team in 1970 this basketball card which are part of a set were sponsored by Marathon Oil and drawn by prolific professional sports artist Nicholas Volpe. The reverse sides are completely filled with advertising and promotional opportunities to buy. This is from the 1970-1971 season. Freddie is the only player to start his career in the NBA, and play all 9 full ABA seasons (1967–1976) until the NBA/ABA merger, then sign back with the NBA.
Freddie Lewis was a star point guard and captain for the Indiana Pacers in the American Basketball Association (ABA), playing on all three of their championship teams in 1970, 1972, and 1973. He was the MVP of the 1972 ABA Playoffs, a four-time ABA All-Star, and received the MVP award at the 1975 ABA All-Star Game. Lewis is remembered as a steady, clutch, and underrated leader who is a significant figure in Pacers history.
